29 June 2026 – Malaysia Digital 2030 is officially launched.

Today, YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) Action Plan in Putrajaya, marking the beginning of Malaysia’s next and most decisive phase of digital transformation: towards an AI Nation.

Building on the National 4IR Policy and Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, and aligned with RMK13, MD2030 charts Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda for 2026-2030 with clear targets to be achieved by the end of the decade.

By 2030, MD2030 targets include a 30% digital economy contribution to GDP, 500,000 new high-value jobs, 700,000 workers reskilled and upskilled, RM4.5 billion in public sector savings, and 95% of government services online.

More than adopting technology, MD2030 is about producing it – positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in AI-driven digital solutions. 

“Malaysia has set the aspiration of KL20; to be the world’s top 20 innovation hub and startup ecosystem by 2030. Very ambitious but not impossible to achieve. Hence it is imperative to ensure the availability of local talents who will drive the country’s AI technology growth. Active efforts are being made to improve digital skills and re-skilling at all levels of society; from identifying challenges and opportunities in the digital talent landscape in Malaysia, to coordinating efforts to improve the school education curriculum. By fostering awareness and understanding of new technologies, we can turn doubt into hope, fear into empowerment and challenges into opportunities to attract digital talent to deepen knowledge and skills in new technologies including AI technology.” said Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy of Malaysia.

AI untuk Rakyat is an initiative to close the digital literacy gap among Malaysians. For students, this program can provide a basic overview of the world of AI which aims to attract their interest to enter and further build a career in this sector. For other groups of society, this program can provide a basic understanding of AI to promote better awareness and appreciation of a technology that is beneficial to individuals, society and ultimately the country.
