12 August 2026 – Today marked the launch of the new Rakyat Digital, Malaysia’s digital learning hub – bringing digital literacy, upskilling, and AI tools together under one platform for every Malaysian.

The launch was officiated by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, at the AI Malaysia Takeover 2026. 19 partners were given recognition for their support of the Rakyat Digital programme.  This is one more step towards an AI Nation by 2030, and it starts with giving every Rakyat a way in.

Serving as the nation’s core execution entity, AI Malaysia aims to drive the implementation of the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, accelerating AI adoption across government, businesses, and society. Crucially, it also focuses on building public trust in AI through the Malaysia AI Safety Institute.

Through AI Malaysia, we aim to strengthen our position as a regional leader in AI innovation, ensuring that responsible technology delivers meaningful, secure benefits for the rakyat and our communities.

“Malaysia has set the aspiration of KL20; to be the world’s top 20 innovation hub and startup ecosystem by 2030. Very ambitious but not impossible to achieve. Hence it is imperative to ensure the availability of local talents who will drive the country’s AI technology growth. Active efforts are being made to improve digital skills and re-skilling at all levels of society; from identifying challenges and opportunities in the digital talent landscape in Malaysia, to coordinating efforts to improve the school education curriculum. By fostering awareness and understanding of new technologies, we can turn doubt into hope, fear into empowerment and challenges into opportunities to attract digital talent to deepen knowledge and skills in new technologies including AI technology.” said Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy of Malaysia.

AI untuk Rakyat is an initiative to close the digital literacy gap among Malaysians. For students, this program can provide a basic overview of the world of AI which aims to attract their interest to enter and further build a career in this sector. For other groups of society, this program can provide a basic understanding of AI to promote better awareness and appreciation of a technology that is beneficial to individuals, society and ultimately the country.
