The National AI Office (NAIO)
The National AI Office (NAIO), approved by the Cabinet on 28 August 2024, is set to become the central authority driving Malaysia’s AI agenda. Its mission is to position the country as a key player in AI within ASEAN and the broader global landscape.
NAIO aims to enhance the country’s AI capabilities by fostering innovation, promoting cross-sector collaboration, and supporting the integration of AI into government, industry, and societal frameworks. This office will spearhead initiatives that leverage AI to strengthen the digital economy, improve public services, and contribute to sustainable development goals.
In its early stages, NAIO will operate under the guidance of MyDIGITAL Corporation, a government agency tasked with overseeing Malaysia’s digital transformation efforts, before its official launch in November 2024. NAIO will be a key driver in advancing Malaysia’s AI infrastructure, aiming to create a thriving AI ecosystem that encourages AI adoption, research, and commercialisation across various sectors.
NAIO is also set to facilitate Malaysia’s participation in regional AI developments, particularly within ASEAN, by creating AI-driven solutions that address local and regional challenges. Through its efforts, NAIO will shape the future of AI in Malaysia, striving to make the nation a leader in digital transformation and a beacon for AI innovation in Southeast Asia.

Head of Agency/Chief Executive Officer - National AI Office
The Head of Agency/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National AI Office will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, implement strategic policies, and ensure alignment with the objectives of the Ministry of Digital. The Head of Agency/CEO will be instrumental in shaping the direction of the office, fostering a positive corporate culture, and establishing strong external relationships.
Director AI Policy Lab
The Director of AI Policy Lab will provide the strategic vision to advance the country’s AI policy and governance landscape. This role involves collaborating with diverse stakeholders to shape effective policies, drive impactful projects, and promote thought leadership in AI technology. The Director will also lead assessments of emerging AI technologies, advocate for key AI areas, and prepare position papers to support the National AI Office's objectives.
Director of AI Innovation Exchange
The Director of AI Innovation Exchange will provide strategic leadership and direction to promote open innovation and facilitate the adoption of AI technologies in Malaysia. This role is pivotal in ensuring the success and impact of the NAIO by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and driving market readiness for domestic AI solution providers.
Manager of AI Policy and Governance - NAIO
The Manager of AI Policy and Governance is responsible for driving the development and implementation of AI policy and ethical governance frameworks, in alignment with Malaysia’s national AI strategy under the AI Policy Lab Division. The Manager will work closely with the Director of AI Policy Lab and cross-functional teams in shaping policy initiatives, leading AI advocacy efforts, facilitating legal expertise, and ensuring that AI research, development, and deployment are conducted within established governance standards.
Manager of AI Open Innovation - NAIO
The Manager of AI Open Innovation under the AI Innovation Exchange Division of NAIO will be responsible for the acceleration and adoption of AI solutions and technologies in Malaysia by fostering collaboration and open innovation. The Manager will work closely with the Director of AI Innovation Exchange and cross-functional teams to establish an ecosystem for domestic AI solution providers to be market-ready and promote the widespread use of AI across industries and society. This role includes building partnerships with stakeholders, driving strategic projects, and promoting thought leadership in the AI sector.
Executive for the AI Policy Lab Division - NAIO
Executives for the AI Policy Lab Division, NAIO may be assigned to either the AI Policy & Governance Unit, the AI Assessment, Validation & Compliance Unit or the AI Awareness & Acculturation Unit depending on skillset and competency. Executives play a key role in supporting the manager, director, and CEO in executing projects, facilitating stakeholder engagements, and contributing to the overall strategy for advancing AI technologies in Malaysia.
Executive for the AI Innovation Exchange Division - NAIO
Executive for the AI Innovation Exchange Division, NAIO may be assigned to either the AI Open Innovation Unit, AI Technology Adoption Unit, and AI Talent Development Unit depending on skillset and competency. Executives play a key role in supporting the manager, director, and CEO to foster AI innovation through open collaboration, accelerate the adoption of AI technologies, and nurture AI talent.
