under the COVID-19\npandemic situation has intensified the need for Malaysia and the rest of\nthe world to produce skilled talents capable of participating in the\ndevelopment and deployment of digital technology. The unprecedented\ngrowing demand in specialised digital skills results in a considerable\ntalent gap that requires rapid upskilling within companies and provides\nnew opportunities for talents.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ea3a9d6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ea3a9d6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe matter was discussed at a panel session yesterday, organised by the\nStrategic Change Management Office (SCMO), the government agency\noverseeing the implementation of the MyDIGITAL initiative, and the\nSocial &#038; Economic Research Initiative (SERI), in collaboration with\nMicrosoft Malaysia. The panel members were <b>Dr. Sumitra Nair<\/b>, Vice\nPresident and Head of Digital Skills &#038; Jobs at the Malaysia Digital\nEconomy Corporation (MDEC), <b>Mr. Aadrin Azly<\/b>, Chief Digital Officer of Petronas and <b>Professor Elizabeth Lee<\/b>, CEO of Sunway Education\nGroup. The session was moderated by <b>Dr. Helmy Haja Mydin<\/b>, the CEO\nof SERI.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4eec6bc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4eec6bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe panel session, themed <b>&#8216;Digital Talent in the New, Now &#038; Never\nNormal: Are Skills the Currency of the Future?\u2019<\/b>, is a follow-up to the\nrelease of the SCMO-SERI Digital Talent Survey and the Engagement\nSession on 17th August 2021. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Fabian\nBigar, the CEO of SCMO, highlighted the importance of streamlining the\nefforts by the government, the private sector and academia to develop a\npool of advanced digital talents. The speakers at the panel session\nrepresented these three corners of digital talent development. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-14419c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"14419c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMulti-stakeholder collaboration is the key to address the evolving demand\nof digital talents. Tertiary education institutions must allow the private\nsector to get closely involved in the design and accreditation of digital\ncourses in order to enhance the employability of graduates. Meanwhile,\nthe private sector must also be more open to providing incubation and\nlearning opportunities for undergraduates to gain hands-on exposure. All\nof these must happen systematically, anchored on agile and flexible\npolicy decisions.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9678c00 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9678c00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe existing workforce are also encouraged to embrace a growth mindset\nand continuously learn by upskilling themselves and acquiring\nspecialised digital skills according to the current trends. They can no\nlonger solely rely on employers to provide training in order to gain new\nskills. At the same time, the training and academic institutions under the\npublic and private sectors are called upon to enhance the quality of digital\ntalents in Malaysia by offering short-term and medium-term courses for professional certifications in high demand digital skills such as big data\nanalytics, data science, cloud computing and digital marketing. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7deafd4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7deafd4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHaving appropriate digital skills and certifications would enable digital\ntalents in Malaysia to gain better prospects in the local digital scene as\nwell as global, since physical location is no longer a barrier in digital\noperations.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4da78d4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4da78d4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Digital Talent Survey released by SCMO and SERI had highlighted\nthe following findings:-\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dffec29 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dffec29\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>\nThe top two barriers to having adequate and sufficient digital talent\nwere: skills gaps in the local labour market and inability to attract specialised talents.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3954f40 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3954f40\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li>Big Data Analytics and Digital Marketing were the digital skills most\nsought after by employers, followed by Artificial Intelligence, Data\nScience, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-21f7dc6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"21f7dc6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li>Critical thinking and analysis, analytical thinking and innovation,\nand collaboration topped the list of soft skills, followed by English\nproficiency, and communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9a9b8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e9a9b8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li>On average, only 4.8% of respondents felt that the existing labour\nmarket fully meets their digital talent needs. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-60d03c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"60d03c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li>According to survey respondents, the following are the tech roles\nwhich tend to remain vacant for more than three months: Big Data\nAnalytics, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud\nComputing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-16548c3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\"
